Mr. Bruce Gordon
Bruce Gordon grew up in Southern California in the 1960s, when the surf was up and the days were good and full of sunshine. By the end of the decade, he had moved with his family from the warm California sun to the Bad Bad Lands of Australia. Lennon-McCartney melodies and Brian Wilson harmonies were supplanted by wobble boards and tuneless flamin’ jungle music.
Gordon returned to Southern California in the late 1980s and formed the Cyphers, a pop/rock/demolition foursome which cut a swath of broken guitar strings and splintered harmonies across the L.A. music scene. It was during this time that Bruce wrote the score to the beloved cult film, SHOCK! SHOCK! SHOCK! (Rhino Home Video).
Gordon resurfaced in the new millennium as the writer and co-producer of two acclaimed albums by Mr. Encrypto: HERO AND VILLAIN! and SECRET IDENTITY CRISIS (In fact, some claimed Mr. Encrypto and Gordon were one and the same! Of course, if this were true, it would mean Gordon played every instrument and sang every vocal on the album. Surely, this stretches plausibility to the breaking point.)
In 2015, Gordon combined forces with Steve Stoeckel (SpongeTones), Joel Tinnel, and Stacy Carson to form POP CO-OP, an internet-based conglomerate, who released three albums of original guitar-and-harmony-driven power pop over the next several years.
In 2021, when the world began to venture out again post-pandemic, Bruce Gordon (make that MR. Bruce Gordon) set to work on a new batch of all-original material, enlisting the creative talents of Kevin Jarvis, Evie Sands, Teresa Cowles, Jason Berk, Norman Kelsey, Peter Holsapple, Adam Marsland, Probyn Gregory, and Carl Byron. The resulting album, ONE TALL ORDER, was released on the Futureman Records label in May of 2023.
